MEPL International Dubai (Middle East Project Logistics) are specialised in GCC land and project services for oversized cargo. They have recently carried out operations at Hamriya Free Zone Port for the export of refinery equipment including flare risers to Jizan in Saudi Arabia.

The cargo was destined for the Jizan Refinery & Terminal Project (PKG 9) and the shipment consisted of 52 main risers plus spare parts with a total volume of approximately 22,000cbm. The flare risers had maximum dimensions of 27.00 x 5.55 x 4.48m and minimum dimensions of 24.50 x 5.55 x 3.40m.

The Korean EPC client awarded complete door-to-door logistics operations to MEPL including custom clearance in the UAE & Saudi Arabia, road permissions, port permissions, cargo inspections, insurance arrangements, stevedoring and trucking etc.

Awais Ganatra from MEPL comments; "Due to the sizes, all of the cargo required movement by breakbulk vessel but due to the higher cost of freight & landed, the shipper asked for some alternative option in order to minimise these costs. Therefore, our solution was to move 35 flare risers by land from Hamriya Free Zone to the Jizan Refinery Site with the remaining 17 flare risers moved by breakbulk."
